Your impact: how you’re helping to end homelessness
Right now, 330,000 families and individuals in Britain are experiencing the worst forms of homelessness. This includes rough sleeping and long stays in unsuitable temporary accommodation.
By stepping up to this challenge, you’ll make sure that people find their way out of homelessness for good. Your donations will enable Crisis to work side by side with people as they find safe, stable homes, gain employment skills and build back confidence.

£10
Could pay for someone’s travel costs to a flat viewing or job interview.

£30
Could give someone an hour of one-to-one support with one of our specialist lead workers.

£45
Could fund three phone calls with a translator so that we can support people who don’t speak English.

£100
Could help someone find their way back into employment, from training through to finding and securing a job.
You’re part of an incredible community
Thank you for stepping forward to end homelessness. Every step you take represents one of the 330,000 families and individuals in Britain experiencing the worst forms of homelessness. But you’re not alone. Together, you’re making a difference, one step at a time.
FAQs
If you have a question that’s not covered below, email us on fundraise@crisis.org.uk. We’re happy to help!
How does the challenge work? Do I have to walk?
You can cover the 330,000 steps however you like – whether you walk, run, jog or skip. You can also change the challenge to suit your requirements, for example, wheel a certain distance during April.
Who can take part?
Anyone can take part in the challenge and do it in a way that works for them. However, we ask that anyone under 18 takes part with a parent or guardian who registers on their behalf.
How do I track my steps?
You can use fitness devices like Fitbit and Garmin or free apps like Runkeeper and MapMyWalk. Alternatively, your phone will have plenty of free pedometer apps you can use to track your steps. We’ll also provide a handy printable step tracker which you can use to help keep track of your progress.
How do I log my steps?
When you log your steps, you’ll earn virtual badges at every milestone! You can connect your fundraising page to your Fitbit account and your steps will automatically be logged. You don’t need a Fitbit device to be able to log your steps, you can just use the Fitbit app and add your phone to start tracking. You can find out how to do this here.
You can find more info on how to connect your Fitbit account to your fundraising page here.
Alternatively, you can log your steps on your fundraising page manually by following these steps:
- Make sure you are logged into your Step Challenge JustGiving page by following this link: (link to microsite log in)
- Once logged in, click the button labelled ‘MY PAGE’ in the top right corner on desktop and mobile.
- Scroll down your page until you see the button ‘LOG STEPS’. Click on this button.
- The ‘Log steps’ box will pop up asking you to input your step count, the date you are adding steps for (in the last week) and a description of how you found the challenge that day or what you got up to. This description is a great way to update your sponsors on how you’re getting on.
If you have any problems, please get in touch on fundraise@crisis.org.uk and we can guide you through it.
Can I fundraise offline?
Yes! You can collect offline donations such as cash and cheques. When you’re ready to pay in your offline fundraising, contact us on fundraise@crisis.org.uk or use this online form. Remember to mention ‘step challenge’ in the ‘Which event did you do’ box.
I’ve raised £10, when do I get my t-shirt?
We’ll be sending t-shirts in batches to reduce costs for the charity, so it might take a week or two for your t-shirt to arrive.
If you can’t wait, check out our online shop for exclusive merch.
Can I take part as a team?
Yes, once everyone has signed up individually, the team captain can visit their fundraising page to create a team. To get started, choose a team name and set a fundraising target. You can also write a personalised story for your shared page. When others sign up, they can join your team by typing in the same team name. This will then link everyone’s pages to a shared team page.
Is anyone near me taking part?
Please ask your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours to get involved – the more the merrier! You can also find out what other people in our community are doing and if they’re local to you in our Facebook group.
Do you have resources to support my challenge?
Yes, you’ll find downloadable resources at the bottom of this page.
